Irony

Today in school, I learned a small tidbit of information I found funny. Surprisngly this year my school will be letting out earlier then all of the public schools. WHy do I find this funny you ask? Well. My school ( a charter school) often goes on longer, ending later then most schools and starting school earlier as well. It made me laugh when the irony of my school ending before others is actually going to happen. Even my Biology teacher was startled by the information. And so I say thank you to my school for not allowing us to miss all those extra days like the other schools, because in the long run look whose laughing now. (It's me, in case you couldn't guess.)

Response to T.I.'s Article

I have to admit, I was actually being a bit superficial when I had heard of T.I. and his legal problems, seeing as it was just another celebrity who had goteen his/herself in some sort of legal trouble and not really caring. Honestly I'd like to say good job to T.I. for actually learning something from his actions and wanting to correct himself on the errors he made and the fact that he is encouraging young people to stop all the violence that goes on in the streets these days. So..uh...good job T.I., keep a stiff upper lip and all that jazz.

Lebron James

Lebron James is a NBA basketball player that plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. For the series, James averaged 27.8 points, 7.5 assists, and 8.5 rebounds. He set a franchise record for double-doubles in a playoff season with eight and became the first Cavalier and the first non-guard in NBA history to have at least seven assists in eight consecutive playoff games.

Lakers for the Championship

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the best teams in the history of the NBA. This 2008-2009 season, the Lakers went 64-17 and had the number 1 seed for the Western Conference Playoffs. The Lakers won 2 games out of the 7 game series against the Utah Jazz in the playoffs. In the future, I believe the Lakers will win the NBA Championship against the Philadelphia 76ers in 6 games.

The Playoffs

In the 2009 NBA playoffs there are 16 teams in the playoffs right now. I think the Cleveland Cavs will win the Eastern Confrence again. Also I think that the LA Lakers will win the Western Confrence again. After all I think that the Cavs will win the finals.

Parable

There was a young man, fresh out of high school and he was making his way to a college interview. The young man was inadvertently killed that day in ways unbeknown to anyone....No one knows what happened it was as if some strange force from high above had killed him in cold blood, a being who felt he was in complete control of everyone and everything. Soon it began to rain, and as for the young man's family they began to weep for him. It was strange how it rained, because that day was meant to be completely sunny and hot, but soon the landscape was a cold and desolate and the rain became even harder. Several days followed, each of of which were gray and cloudy, The young man's family found it strange how the very heavens themselves seemed to weep for their lost loved one. "Perhaps, even God feels the pain of this terrible loss as we do." The Young man's mother said looking gravely out her window.

Just something I wrote....

Rate and comment if you feel like it.

Boston vs. Chicago

At the beginning of the year a lot of people thought that Boston will probably go to the NBA Championship. Kevin Garnette got injured, then everything came down. First game of the playoff for Boston, they lost to a team that is not even a contender. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have not been scoring at a proficient rate. Game 2 they pulled off a big win but it was very close. Also KG will be out for the rest of the year.

Glowing edges filter

I never knew how to filter a sunset picture so I tried many things until what I liked. The filter that I picked was Glowing edges but,I saved it then used the Gowing edges again to make it better. The way I filtered my sunset picture I thought was creative.

In Photoshop I used the Poster Edges filter to soften this image of Bowwow. I think it looks like a painting.

Paint Daubs

On this picture of Beyonce I used the Paint Daub filter and I changed the numbers on the control. I changed the smooth numbers and after I did that the picture had some edge to it because at first I wasn't that good after I was done I realy liked it more than the original. I made the colors brighter so you couldn't see her face and so you could figure out who this was. I like the filter because it makes the pictures all blurry and it takes a way the face and all other objects that are different colors.

Marqeas Johnson's trie on impressionism

This was my first time using filters in Photo shop so I just played around with it until I found something I liked. I used poster edges, then I sharpened & blurred it, & lastly diffused it. I think that I gave this photograph a personality and made it a painting.

My Filter

I used the chalk and charcoal filter because black and white are my favorite colors. The image look like a sketch a painter would draw. This was my first time using filters so I played around with the filters until I found the right one and the chalk and charcoal was right.

I like this picture because there is too much violence in this neighborhood and that's not a good place to grow up because you learn what you see and if you do what you see you may end up in prison or something.

Farm Security Administration Photos

On Monday we talked about the photographers who were hired by the Farm Security Administration during the Great Depression to document poor famers and workers. For class this Wednesday, you need to look at some of these photographs on The Library of Congress website. We will go out and photograph around the neighborhood thinking about what our photographs are documenting and saying about our environment.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND KNOWING YOUR HISTORY

Last month was february... The month of BLACK HISTORY. This month was also important because this is the month that celebrates 2 men that spoke out against the mistreatment of slaves. One was a president who cared about the African Americans and thought that they were equal, so he drawn up the Emanicipation Proclaimation to free the slaves and died for what he believed in... His name was ABRAHAM LINCOLN. The other man was a man who fought for the slaves, he was taught how to read and write. He even discovered the NORTH STAR ORGANIZATION. He even spoke at a Women's Convention and talked about how the women were equal to men... His name was FREDERICK DOUGLASS.

Everybody in my high school didn't pay that any mind but me. I thought that it would be very considered of me to celebrate my culture and the history of those who set down the foundation for African Americans and other ethnicites for a better tomorrow.

If it wasn't for people like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, and significant others... We as African Americans today would be going throught the same hardships they went thought 45-100 years ago probably. That made me upset because everybody was so busy worrying about themselves and the materialistic things that they didn't have enough time to just "LISTEN".

The background of Black History Month all started when it was "Negro History Week", then it was later called Black History Month. Even though we have been in this country since the colonial times since we could last remember, it wasnt until the 20th Century that African Americans have gained recognition in the history textbooks.

This was all started by a man named Dr. Carter G. Woodson of Kentucky.

As you can see you have just witness someone who was full of compassion and driven to let the whole world know about the contributions of African Americans and their inventions or other things that we used today.
It is important to know your history because one day you want to tell your children what significant things that Blacks have done and what hardship they went through and even how their lives were put to the test for fighting for civil rights or fought for better opportunities.

COUNTING DOWN TIL GRADUATION AND PROM

I cant wait until prom and graduation. To me prom is a BIG deal. When it comes to prom, you go "ALL OUT" and show people what you are wearing and make people real "JEALOUS" and so "ENVIOUS" that they want to scream. Prom comes once... well maybe TWICE (JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR) in your lifetime. I have already got my prom dress in the process in getting made, go the car already in stored ... PROBABLY GETTING A ROLLS ROYCE, the only thing I have to worry about is the SHOES, HAIR, and my DATE.

Graduation is a big step for me is because it marks the next foundation to becoming a young adult. I know that I am 18 and I am very mature, I make mistakes ... HELL .... Everyone says I'm goofy, but I know how to set aside my ALTER EGO and THE REAL ME. You can only graduate from High School only ONCE. After graduation, there will be alot of challenges coming my way, I have to suck it up and deal with the issues with words and not RETAILATION.

I am just happy after what I said in the 2 paragraphs their are no words to say. BUT ....

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!

Do You Think That Chris Brown Should Take The Full Blame

By now I'm pretty sure that you all heard about the Chris Brown and Rihanna drama and that everybody is blaming Chris Brown for everything that happened. I think that Chris Brown was wrong but at the same time I don't think that he should be taking all the blame for both of them. There are always two sides of a story and both of them should take equal blame for what happened.

The Moment

By Jamir
The Inauguration of Barack Obama has affected many Americans since former president George Bush messed up the economy and the war in Iraq. Barack Obama is like a role model because you can still be a business person but still do your favorite hobbies. President Obama plays basketball just like other people in the United States and just like me. He is my role model and I want to be just like him when I grow up (not exactly like him). I know he can change the economy and the war in Iraq. He can change the United States and we can help him change the United States too.

Barack Obama come to the white house

By Tanisha
On January 20, 2009 Obama was inaugurated into the White House. Though the election seemed hard for him, I knew he was going to make it through and that he was going to be a legend. When President Obama and his wife were walking in the parade, I know he felt proud of himself and his country. I just know that he will put the world first, even at his own risk. Also I think he will give people jobs, so that they can get better paychecks and buy better cars to go to work. In whatever he promised during his speech, I hope that it comes true and that he stays true to his word. Also I would like to say god bless America.

OBAMA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched the inauguration but I only payed attention part of the time. I think the ceremony was okay but it was to long but some of the things he said were good. I'm not sure if my mom watched because I wasn't at home when it was on but if she did I bet she was crying. One thing that stood out to me during the speech is when he was talking about the economy. The economy is very bad right now and lots of jobs are being lost and I think he can make a difference. I think that the country will change a lot one of the things I think he is going to don't is bring the troops home. They are over in Iraq fighting and dieing for nothing and I don't think that is fair to families who have had to say good bye to their loved ones because they are fighting in a war with no purpose. I think Malia and Sasha's outfits were cute I just didn't like the color of Michelle's outfit. I only saw one star at the inauguration and that was Aretha Franklin I didn't even notice who she was until somebody told me.

Obama's Presidency

By John S.
I am so glad that Obama is president. I'm hoping and praying that Obama changes the mistakes that Bush made. Obama is going to fix the economic crisis that is going on right now. Global warming is also a big crisis too, so I hope he fixes that problem too. It might take a few years but I think Obama will change the world and hopefully this war in Iraq will end soon.

Inauguration Response

Okay let me answer these little questions as best as I can, okay here we go. I indeed did watch the Ceremony, seriously who didn't? The Ceremony, itself wasn't bad at all I actually paid full attention which is hard for me to do when something on tv is strictly talking.Again of course my parents saw the thing like I said before who didn't? My mother suspposedly cried during the thing. Don't know if its true or not. I remember the news talking about Michelle Obama's dress. I could care less about those types of things because when you get down to it, what are you worried about more, the lady's dress or what Obama's gonna do for the country? Well those are my general thoughts, hopefully the U.S. can get better within the next 4 or hopefully 8 years.

Barack Obama's Question

I watched the Inauguration at school in the auditorium. I thought the ceremony was cool. And I felt happy because finally we have an African-American for a president. When my parents watched the Inauguration they cried and yelled out Obama's name. My parents felt glad and happy. The important thing I like in the ceremony is that Barack was using president Lincolns bible.

Inuagurual questions

I watched the Inauguration yesterday and thought that the ceremony was very interesting after seeing all those people welcome our new African American President. I was just like wow I couldn't really believe what I was seeing. I think that this event will go down in history forever. Our ancestors were chained up and brought here as slaves and now one of our people is the most powerful man of this Free country. Like Obama said in his speech "less than sixty years ago his father probably wouldn't even be served at a local restaurant." A few years ago a lot of people wouldn' t have expected this to ever happen. I have one conern though I hope that Obama can keep all the promises that he made.

Inauguration 2009!!!

For today's class I want you to write up a post about the Inauguration of President Obama yesterday. Answer the following questions in your post:
-Did you watch the Inauguration?
-What did you think of the ceremony? How did you feel?
-What did your parents do? Did they watch? How did they feel?
-What stood out during his speech? How did his speech make you feel? Did he say anything that was really important to you?
-How do you think our country will change now?
Optional Questions:
-What did you think of Sasha and Malia's outfits?
-What did you think of Michelle Obama's outfits?
-What celebrities did you see at the Inauguration and the Balls?

Fly Eagles Fly

Do you think the Eagles will go to the Super Bowl? I do. The Eagles have been on a roll ever since Mcnabb was benched. My prediction is that the Steelers and the Eagles will go to the Super Bowl 44. I think the Steelers would win because of their defense. Their defense is incredible. They have James Farrior,Troy Polamalu and James Harrison. There defense is unstoppable.

The Anacostia Boys

This photograph was taken by Gordon Parks, a photographer, novelist, musician, poet, journalist, activist, and a film director. Most likely, this picture was taken in the 1950s and 60s because of the black and white coloring. It looks to me that these 2 males are friends and looking up into their future.
By Jamir

Visual Elements: Gordon Parks

This photograph is by Gordon Parks. He uses texture and light quality in this photograph. The texture is in the lady's hair. Her hair is done in a unique design and when you look at it actually feels like you can touch it. Gordon also uses light in this picture. Her face is all black but her back is all bright, therefore it makes a strong contrast in light. The reason I chose this picture is because the texture and contrast of this picture make it so graphic, it looks like a drawing.
By John Spanier

Gordon Parks photography

Today I will be explaining to you what I think could be the story behind this picture. First she's walking away from the nuns, so maybe she wanted to be a nun but they didn't accept her. I think that they might also have rejected her because of something that she did.She might have just wanted to get whatever secret she had off of her conscience and they kicked her out even though that is not the way of god he forgives every one. He forgave us when we crucified his son and he will forgive that lady for whatever sin(s) she committed too. I think that she looks back only a little because she is so enraged on how the nuns behaved about her past. Even though their pasts probably aren't guilt free either.

What I see in this picture

This is a mother of four who does every things for her kids and she doesn't have help . She tries to make it on her own by working at night and sometimes in the morning. She is taking care of her babies as her daughter is getting ready to go to school. She is fond of the moments she spends with her kids during the day. She has to work and pay the rent but she feels that her daughter is not having a normal life because she has to care for her brother and sisters. Even though her daughter explains everyday that it's okay she will watch them because they can't afford a babysitter right now.

New Years Resolution

My New Years Resolution is to be nice to everybody even if we had problems. One other Resolution I have is to get all A's in everyone of my classes.

What’s Your New Years Resolution

So it’s the year of '09 and there are a lot of big things happening and a lot of changes to be done. For instance, Barack Obama, he’s the 44th and first black president. Obama is going to change the world for the middle class families in America by raising tax rates for the rich people and fixing the budget. But the major thing I love about a new year is a new start on things, to forget your past and start over and set new goals for yourself.

by John Spanier

Tanisha's Holidays!

This Christmas I got a lot of stuff like clothes and an iPod Touch. The rest of my presents were money and gift cards.
In this New Year, 2009, I will be a better student and try to stop fighting people and make them mad. Also I want to stop being smart with my teachers and try not to get mad when they yell at me.
Happy New Years Everyone!

My Winter Break

My winter break was fun! I got almost everything I wanted and I got to spend 12 days with family, friends and no school. My new year’s resolution is to stay away from fake and backstabbing people as much as possible. Also this year I want to work on my anger problems, they aren’t as bad as they used to be but they could be better.

The New Year 2009

by Anthony Lovelace

I am very happy this is a new year. It is 2009 and it should be a very good year for everyone. We have a new president. He has a lot of work to do but he should do a good job. This is my last year at Fredrick Douglass and I expect to be attending New Media Technology this year in September. I have a new business that is still running from last year. I expect this year to be very good.
